AROUND 69 longhouses in the Ngemah constituency will receive water supply through the proposed Kanowit Regional Water Supply project.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi revealed that the project, approved by the Sarawak government during the Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan, would encompass several essential tasks.

“One aspect of the project involves the installation of water pipes of various sizes.

“Additionally, new infrastructures such as submersible water pump stations, water reservoir tanks, and high-capacity water tanks will be constructed.”

Responding to enquiries from Anyi Jana (GPS-Ngemah) during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly’s question-and-answer session on Friday (May 10), Dr Abdul Rahman addressed concerns about untreated water supply in Ngemah.

Anyi also sought information regarding the Sarawak government’s initiatives to bolster water supply in the Kanowit area.

Dr Abdul Rahman outlined the government’s strategy, stating that plans are underway to construct a new water treatment plant through the proposed project.
