KUCHING: A single mother is currently taking care of her son who is bedridden and unconscious due to a horrific motor accident which left him with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).

According to Hope Place, 49-year-old Siti Nur Baya was full of sorrow and hopelessness the moment she found out that her son Gabriel Gani, 21, was involved in the accident in September this year.

“Gabriel, who used to work as a lorry assistant, is now under observation by the doctors at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and doing their best to save his life.

“Due to him being bedridden, Gabriel is now on tube feeding and uses a suction machine,” Hope Place said in a press release yesterday.

Despite all that, Siti is still hoping that Gabriel will wake up and be well again, and the case is still being investigated by the police and even they are hoping for him to be conscious again.

“Gabriel is currently staying at Kpg Bumbok, Batu Kitang with his mother and 12- year-old sister. Gilbert, who is his older brother visits regularly and is the sole income provider for the whole family, working at the Customs Office.

“Gilbert is truly thankful that some of his relatives come and help, and he admits that he had spent a lot of money ever since his brother’s accident.

“With medical bills for surgery and hospitalisation of over a month, the family’s finances are dwindling fast. Though saddled with financial worries, the family is grateful for people’s generosity,” Hope Place added.

Hope Place stated that the family is also in the midst of applying for Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) compensation.

“Hope Place is supporting Gabriel with special milk supplements and adult diapers,” it added.
