KUCHING: Just days into the holy month of Ramadan, Hope Place Kuching received an urgent call from a desperate mother appealing for milk powder for her baby.
The charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO) said Norhaliza Mohamad Ali sought help because her six young children at home have barely enough to eat.
“Norhaliza’s husband is a labourer at a construction site. The couple have six children aged between one and 10 years old.
“Her three eldest children are schooling while the other three are still toddlers. According to Norhaliza, with the prices of goods increasing and daily expenses to settle, her husband’s salary which is below the minimum wage is unable to cover everything,” the NGO said in a statement today.
The family of eight is renting a tiny room at Sungai Apong where they will squeeze to sleep on three thin mattresses.
“However, Norhaliza is a good wife and mother. Their tiny room is very clean and tidy with everything in order,” Hope Place said.
The NGO is supplying the family with basic food aid and children’s milk powder.
“We would like to thank all contributors who have been continuously supporting B40 families like Norhaliza’s,” Hope Place added.
