KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has stepped in to help a widow after being alerted by a committee member of an apartment in Taman Dahlia.
Nurul Iman Abdullah resides in Taman Dahlia, Matang, along with her three children, aged between three and 13. Her husband passed away a month ago due to stage 4 cancer.
Nurul’s husband, 52, had been battling liver cancer, and in May of this year, his condition worsened, leading to his sudden demise.
The loss came as a devastating blow to Nurul and her children, even though they had mentally prepared for the worst.
“Now left alone, Nurul is shouldering the responsibility of caring for her children, with two of them attending school, while her youngest child is disabled,” stated a press release on Thursday (July 6).
Hope Place highlighted that Nurul’s youngest child, Nur Hidayah, has Down’s syndrome and requires tube feeding. The three-year-old is lactose intolerant, which necessitates the use of soy-based milk powder.
“Still grieving and caring for her children, Nurul is unable to find employment or generate income. She is grateful, however, for her daughter’s monthly financial aid of RM500 from JKM (Department of Social Welfare) and RM200 in support from Baitulmal,” the statement mentioned.
“However, with expenses such as purchasing expensive milk powder, rent, and bills to pay, money is always in short supply.”
Hope Place is currently providing the family with basic food assistance and diapers for the children.
“We would like to express our gratitude to all the generous donors who contribute and support marginalised and underprivileged families here in Kuching.”
