KUCHING: The Sarawak Society for the Deaf (SSD) invites the public to support its annual Charity Food Fair on July 28.
The event will be held at the Association of Churches (ACS) premises along Jalan Stampin here from 8am to noon, and aims to raise RM100,000 to fund activities for the betterment of its members as well as for operating cost.
“With financial support from the public, this would enable SSD to further reach out, assist and engage with those with hearing impairment through its activities (sign language courses, nursery etc),” said Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How yesterday.
He said despite SSD operating on a tight budget, it was still able to equip its members with skills that enabled them to find jobs in hotels, shops and at car washes.
“As such, the association is a vital bridge to connect those with hearing impairment with society.” See also provided an allocation of RM3,000 for the event.
Meanwhile, SSD chairperson Wenderine Koo said this year’s event would feature 100 stalls and that 20 requests had been received thus far.
“We are still urging those interested to come forward in your effort to raise funds for SSD,” she said, adding that last year’s event featured a total of 70 stalls that generated nearly RM100,000, attracting an estimated 5,000 people.
