KUCHING: A father of one, who is diagnosed with colon cancer and unable to provide for his family, has received assistance from Hope Place.

Yahya Umar who lives in Sungai Apong here, was first diagnosed with cancer at the end of last year, and he could no longer earn income for his wife and daughter.

“Although still at the early stage of cancer, Yahya’s health is very weak. Most of the time he is in bed and needs assistance when going to the washroom. At the moment he is still under observation at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Hence, Yayha’s wife, Siti has contacted Hope Place requesting assistance for her family,” it said.

She also told Hope Place that her family now is in destitution and she was at wits’ end regarding money.

“Though grateful that their relatives contributed some, Siti is still unable to pay for her daughter’s school fees.

“Therefore, as part of the ‘Back to School’ programme, Siti’s daughter Arieqa school fees is being paid and she is so excited to be in Primary One this year,” Hope Place said in a statement.
