KUCHING: Hope Place is appealing to the public for assistance following the rapid decline in health of a 60-year-old grandmother, Paijam Saee.
“Recently, Paijam received adult diapers and special milk supplements from Hope Place after being diagnosed with an unidentified illness that has left her bedridden.
“Living in Kampung Haji Baki with her son and his family, Paijam’s condition has placed a significant financial strain on the household,” the NGO said on Thursday (July 4).
According to her family, Paijam was generally healthy despite having high blood pressure.
However, in March, she suddenly fainted at her workplace and was rushed to the hospital.
Doctors have only been able to confirm that she has low sodium levels, and further tests are required to determine the cause of her deteriorating health.
Currently, she is too weak to sit up and has lost a significant amount of weight, relying solely on watery porridge and special milk supplements as she is unable to consume solid food.
“Paijam resides with her 36-year-old son, Ilyasa, his wife Sofiah, and their two children. Ilyasa works as a road maintenance labourer, earning minimum wage, while Sofiah takes care of Paijam at home.
“Despite her own health issues, Paijam is known for her hardworking nature and continued to work at her job in Satok until her sudden illness.
“A single mother since 2005, she raised five children on her own, most of whom are now married and living elsewhere,” Hope Place added.
