KUCHING: Several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Mambong state constituency fully support incumbent Datuk Dr Jerip Susil to be re-nominated to defend the seat in the 12th state election.

These NGOs are Biannah Association, Pebiya Association, Biperoh Association, Braang Association, Segu Bunuk Association, Bisitang Association, Bung Sentah Heritage Association, Sentah Asar Association, Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Penrissen, Siburan and Padawan branches, Orang Ulu Siburan Association as well as Mambong Women’s Association.

The NGOs’ spokesperson Penghulu Richard Daho said, their support for the Mambong assemblyman was a jointly agreed resolution during a meeting held on Tuesday.

“We fully support Dr Jerip (as the Mambong candidate) to ensure the continuity and implementation of agricultural development and courses in Mambong will continue.

“In this regard, we appeal to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) top leadership to take our request seriously,” he said in a statement.

He added that the resolution was read aloud by the presidents and chairmen of the associations present before Jerip, who is also the Assistant Minister of Transport during a meeting on proposed agricultural development and short-term agricultural courses for the Mambong state constituency last Tuesday.

Daho, who is also the Biperoh Association deputy president, said the proposed agricultural development and short-term agricultural courses were very important to them as they had set coffee as the main crop in their area in an effort to make Mambong a coffee belt in Kuching.

“The Agriculture Department has agreed to implement short-term agricultural courses that focus on coffee as well as other crops such as fertigation, livestock and so on.

“They will also be the main players in implementing the courses in collaboration with several associations in Mambong,” he explained.
