SONG: The construction of the 9.6-km road linking Ngungun in Kanowit and Temalat in Song may be ahead of schedule, said Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing after a site visit in Ngungun today.
“The schedule for the completion of the road is in August next year. We were told by the consultant and the contractor that that the construction may be ahead of schedule,” he said.
“Upon completion of the so-called missing link that connects Kapit and the rest of Sarawak, the division will no longer be an ‘island’.
“But what is more important is how the people will utilise the road, not just merely use it as a way to get from Point A to Point B.
“The question now is can you utilise it for your needs. Can you make use of the spin-off to your advantage?” he asked.
Masing, who is also Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister, said that before the road is properly completed, motorists are not allowed to use it as it will disturb the progress of the construction.
Meanwhile, on the 5.1km Ngemah/Ngungun bypass, he said it is still in the tendering process and the tender shall be closed on Sept 24.
The construction of the bypass may be started by the end of this year, he added.
Masing was accompanied on the site visit by Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi; Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Public Works Department Central Region manager Cassidy Morris. – Bernama
