MIRI: The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2024 is underway, with a focus on assessing the nutritional status of Malaysians.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the survey, conducted by the Institute for Public Health, under the Ministry of Health (MOH), aims to gather data on health and morbidity across the country.
“This year, the survey will centre on nutrition trends and dietary habits, with the goal of providing critical insights into the nation’s health,” he said during the NHMS 2024 data collecting programme at Taman Tunku, here today (Sept 8).
Lukanisman disclosed that the survey targets Malaysians aged five years and above.
“The aim is to determine the health and nutrition status of the population by monitoring trends and dietary intake,” he said.
NHMS 2024 involves approximately 5,280 randomly selected households nationwide, with an estimated 8,000 respondents. Since data collection began on July 16, teams have successfully visited nearly 4,061 households, involving 4,910 respondents.
With just two weeks left until the data collection phase concludes at the end of September 2024, Lukanisman urged selected households to cooperate fully with the survey teams.
“We hope that all households will contribute to ensuring the success of this health survey,” he said.
He added the survey findings will provide valuable insights for the Ministry of Health and other government agencies, helping to shape Malaysia’s nutrition policies and guide progress towards national health goals and global commitments.
“NHMS 2024 is crucial in providing up-to-date information that will help us review our nutrition priorities and drive progress,” Lukanisman added.
