KUCHING: A total of nine associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have received Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants totalling RM220,000.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan handed over the grants in a simple ceremony at his office at Wisma Sumber Alam here on Wednesday (Jan 12).
He said he had received an additional allocation from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as there were still many applications received.
“We are very thankful to the chief minister for the additional allocation,” said the Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development at the ceremony.
He said the funds were supposed to be handed over last year but this had been delayed due to the 12th Sarawak state election.
“Therefore, although it was already approved, I did not have the opportunity to hand over the grants at that time,” he said.
Awang Tengah said these funds were for the associations to carry out social activities and also for them to conduct activities for their members.
Among the associations and NGOs which received the grants on Wednesday were the Sports and Recreation Club of Ministry of International Trade and Investment; Social and Sports Club of Land and Survey Department; Serian Islamic Welfare Trust Board; Kuching Division Petanque Sports Association; Sarawak Taekwondo Association; and others.
