MUKAH: Nine eateries here have been ordered to temporarily close down for 14 days after failing to meet hygiene specifications.
The closures were ordered by the Mukah Divisional Health Office under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
The inspection found rat droppings and cockroaches in the premises, leading to the closure orders.
The closures were a result of an integrated operation called ‘Op Premis Bersih’, during which a total of 47 eateries were inspected.
The operation was conducted by the Mukah Health Office’s Food Safety and Quality Unit in collaboration with the Dalat and Mukah District Council and the police.
“During the operation, a total of 34 notices were issued to premises owners and food operators for various offences under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
“Offences included not displaying the FoSIM registration certificate, failing to maintain food handlers’ cleanliness, not taking anti-typhoid vaccine, and not attending food handler training,” Mukah Health Division officer Dr Huzaimah Husin said in a statement.
Premises owners failing to comply with cleanliness standards will be guided on corrective actions to improve cleanliness levels.
She emphasised that premises owners and food operators are responsible for maintaining clean premises at all times to ensure food safety.
The integrated operation aims to ensure that food premises are clean, safe, and compliant with regulations set by the Health Ministry and local authorities.
