Nine get scholarships to study in China

KUCHING: Nine students have been awarded a full four-year scholarship, allowing them to enroll at Haikou University of Economics in China for the 2024 academic year.

These award-winning students were selected jointly by the Padawan Municipal Council and the university.

The scholarships provided by the Hainan Provincial Government and Haikou University of Economics, have enabled the Padawan Municipal Council to recommend local students for higher education opportunities since 2019.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang said that over the past six years, a total of 44 local students have been recommended to go there, 14 of whom who enrolled in 2019 and 2020 have graduated.

“In 2024, a total of nine freshmen were successfully admitted,” he said in a press statement.

Lo and Kuching Chung Huang Middle school No.1 headmaster Lee Chi Peng saw them off at the airport today.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Batu Kitang branch secretary Amy Tnay and her team accompanied the nine students and their parents.

The nine local students admitted this year are Ricky Tang Wei, Eric Voon Jin Sheng, Eason Leong Yik Shen, Chong Ting, Luna Chia Ze Qian, Chen De Rui, Zona Ko Ang Joo, Veniss Bong Jun Qi and Eileen Chai Ee Ling.
