KUCHING: A suspected drug supply centre in Foochow Road No. 1 was busted by the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID). The bust on Wednesday at 3pm also saw the arrest of nine persons. According to the department head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid, acting on intelligence, his men raided a house at Foochow Road No. 1 and arrested three men and two women.
Seized from a 23-year-old unemployed suspect from Lundu, who has two previous convictions, was a transparent plastic package containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be syabu weighing 7.08g.
Found on the second suspect was a transparent straw tube containing what police believed to be syabu weighing 0.57g. This suspect, 33, who hails from Jalan Foochow 1, has four previous convictions.
The first suspect will be charged under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the second suspect will be charged under Section 12(2) of the same Act. The other three did not have drugs on them.
During the police raid, four other persons arrived on the scene, apparently to get their supply of drugs. They were immediately arrested. All four were found to have tested positive for drugs and face Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for consumption.
Hasnir said police will continue to be aggressive in nabbing drug suppliers to cut off the supply chain at the source. He said they are also working to get the top people in the drug business and that the police welcome feedback and information from the public.
