Nine new clusters emerge in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded the emergence nine new clusters in the districts of Bau, Serian, Tatau, Saratok and Samarahan.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Bunga Rampai cluster in Bau is a community cluster which involved four families in a village at Banjaran Serapi, Matang.

“From the cluster, 96 people have been tested, and of these, 35 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 while 39 tested negative.

“Meanwhile, 22 people are still waiting for the test result, and today the cluster recorded only one new case,” it added.

SDMC also stated that there were four new clusters in the Serian district.

It said a community cluster – Kampung Paon Rimu cluster, involved residents in a home in Kampung Paon Rimu , Jalan Mentung-Sangai.

The committee said there were a total of 62 people from the cluster. Out of the total, 21 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and 32 tested negative.

Apart from that, nine are still waiting for the test result, and as of today, the cluster recorded three new cases.

“The Kerina cluster is also a community cluster involving a few families in three localities – Kampung Cina, Kampung Kemayau, and kampong Riih Daso.

“Out of 23 people, 15 have tested positive for the virus, including the index case, while four people tested negative and four more are still waiting for test results,” said SDMC.

Also a community cluster, the Kampung Sungai Duuh cluster involved a few families from a village located in Siburan sub-district.

SDMC said, out of 64 people from the cluster, 28 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, while 24 tested negative.

“There are 12 people still waiting for the test result and the cluster, today, recorded eight new cases,” it explained.

Also in Serian, the Melikin cluster is a workplace cluster involving workers from a palm oil estate at in Jalan Serian-Sri Aman, Melikin.

The committee said there are 157 people involved, with 46 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 103 people tested negative, eight are still waiting for the test results and today the cluster recorded seven new cases.

In Tatau, the Sungai Sangan cluster is a community cluster involving longhouse residents under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) located in Jalan Sangan in the Sungai Sangan area.

“The cluster has 50 people tested with seven including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 while 43 tested negative. It also recorded six new cases today,” read the statement.

The Kinda KM18 cluster, also in Tatau, is a workplace cluster involving a factory which is under EMCO located in Kemena Land District (Kinda), Tanjung Kidurong in Bintulu.

The committee added that there are 85 people involved with 10 including the index case tested positive for the virus and 75 tested negative, while today it recorded 10 new cases.

“A community cluster has also emerged in Saratok called the Peligong cluster which involved residents of a longhouse under EMCO in Peligong Sebatan area.

“There are 163 people involved and out of that, 27 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 while 134 tested negative.

“Besides that, there are only two people still waiting for the test result and the cluster recorded 23 new cases today,” said SDMC.

In Samarahan district, the Tanjung Tuang cluster is a community cluster involving residents of a village which is under EMCO located in Tanjung Tuang.

There are 553 people involved, with 84 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 while the other 469 tested negative. It also recorded four new cases today.

SDMC stated that all positive cases from the clusters have been placed in respective hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.
