KUCHING: The public are advised to take note of nine road closures for the Lion Dance Festival Parade 2024, scheduled for Friday (July 26).
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the parade will run from 7pm to 10pm, featuring around 500 participants from 29 contingents.
The parade route starts at Jalan Padungan, and continues through Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Main Bazaar, and concludes at the Kuching Waterfront.
He pointed out that to ensure the event runs smoothly, police will implement road closures in stages from 6pm onwards.
The affected roads are:
- Jalan Main Bazaar to Jalan Masjid
- Jalan Gambier to Jalan Power
- Jalan Old Court House to Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang
- Jalan Carpenter
- Jalan Wawasan to Lebuh Wayang
- Lebuh Wayang to Main Bazaar
- Jalan Padungan to Jalan Bukit Mata
- Jalan Abell traffic lights to Jalan Petanak
- Sri Aman roundabout to Jalan Abell
ACP Ahsmon added that the need for road closures and diversions would be assessed based on real-time traffic conditions so as not to disrupt other road users’ daily activity.
He also urged the public to follow traffic signs directed by police officers and avoid parking by the roadside to prevent congestion.
The public are encouraged to park at designated areas such as Aurora Plaza parking lot, Saujana Building, Top Spot parking lot, Sarawak Plaza parking lot, Pelita Building, and Plaza Merdeka parking lot.
