For Limkokwing Borneo students, it is a mandatory part of their course to organise an event during their final year. For them, there is no better learning than through experience itself after completing a 3 years course with the college.

This semester’s final year event held at Saradise Gallery recently saw a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Design Innovation and the Faculty of Multimedia Creativity which comprises of Diploma in Graphic Design, Diploma in Interior Design, Diploma in Fashion Design, and Diploma in Animation and Multimedia Design students.

The event called NineTales exhibits product and packaging designs by the students of Diploma in Graphic Design, whom are also responsible in leading the event, as well as advertising it.

“This semester’s theme is to reflect the green nature of our state, Sarawak. As our home is known for its nature, we want to promote our nature to the world, and that is through our designs”, said Darren Teo Yong Ping, Project Leader for NineTales.

“On top of that, since nature is actually simple, we want to maintain minimalism as we want people to understand our designs easily”, he added.

Various other activities during the day includes an Interior Design showcase, a short animation premier, a fashion show, a dance performance by the school’s dance club, and henna tattoo art.

Other creative showcase during the day was done by Wesley Ng of Inkmages, an alumni from the creative college. He painted a mural for his juniors, simultaneously to congratulate them for a job well done. The mural artist is one of the sponsor for the event and one of his artwork can be seen at Oishi Restaurant, Kuching.

Other sponsors includes Backerei, Diet Wonder, Hollywood Bridal, Info Sarawak, Jap Design Studio, Knack Interior Culture & Design and Pixel.

The event, although it is organised by students, is also supervised by the faculty’s programme leader to ensure smooth sailing. When speaking to the writer, the Faculty’s Programme Leader, Rosdelina Mustapha gave a good impression as not only their programme leader but also as their lecturer.

“I am very pleased towards the students as their creativity is beyond expectations”, she added.

Like the students in Graphic Design, the students from Diploma in Fashion Design are also responsible to hold a fashion show event each semester. This semester, the designers had to brainstorm designs using recycled materials.

“Under the concept ‘Dare the World’, at first glance you would not notice that the students are actually using recycled materials only for their garments”.

The challenge was given by their lecturer, Effie Jefferyson Henry Adam, who was taken by surprise as her students performed very well with the recycled materials they were told to use. “Under the concept ‘Dare the World’, at first glance you would not notice that the students are actually using recycled materials only for their garments”, the excited lecturer mentioned.

“As our home is known for its nature, we want to promote our nature to the world, and that is through our designs”.

Among the materials used were cans, straws, recycled fabrics and wires.

The other course offered at the Borneo campus is the Diploma in Mass Communication.
