MUKAH: There was no cement supply in town now following the movement control order (MCO) which has been enforced on March 18 and extended for three times until May 12.
Retailers here who are actually hardware shops cannot do anything but to wait and hope for the supply will arrive soon.
Hardware shop owner identified only as Kong said his store had run out of cement since the end of March.
“I do not have any cement for sale now because I do not receive any supply so far,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Kong said he believed that the zero supply of cement in town was due to the MCO.
Another larger hardware shop in town was also found not having any stock of cement at its premises.
The shop had run out of cement supply when it resumed business recently after the government had allowed hardware stores to operate twice weekly during the MCO.
With zero supply of cement in the market now, all construction works, big or small, are badly affected and in fact have stalled.
A check by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday and the last few days found that two projects here had completely stopped work since the first phase of the MCO, while another project had resumed work in the last four days although limited to certain scope only.
Without cement, let alone small projects, even a minor construction work at the backyard also cannot proceed now.
