KUCHING: There is no improvement in the condition of the third rabies patient who is still being warded in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here.

According to the Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, the seven-year-old girl is still undergoing treatment and the doctors are still monitoring her condition.

“We are confident of the doctors and we know that the she is in good hands,” the Minister told reporters after visiting the girl at the hospital yesterday.

She revealed that counselling services were available to the girl’s family members any time.

She also advised the public to be cautious and if possible, to avoid contacts with stray dogs.

The third rabies victim, who is also from Serian, was confirmed to have contracted the rabies virus after a laboratory test.

She had a seizure on 28 June and was rushed to SGH by her parents.
