KUCHING: There was no contest for top Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) posts including the president, deputy presidents, senior vice presidents, Youth Wing chief and Women Wing chief when nominations closed last Friday.
As expected, Welfare, Community We l l B e i n g , Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah was elected unopposed as the new PBB Women Wing chief while Layar Assemblyman, Gerald Rentap Jabu was elected also unopposed as the party’s new Youth Wing chief for the 2017-2020 term.
The announcement was made by PBB permanent chairman who is also the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar at the party headquarters here. Federal Works Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, the outgoing PBB Youth Wing chief, was elected unopposed as the senior vice president (Bumiputera) while Education, Science and Technological Research Minister, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong was also unanimously elected as the party’s senior vice president (Pesaka). Asfia also announced that earlier all the 82 party branches throughout the state have unanimously decided that the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg remain as the party president. Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas were also unanimously nominated to remain as the party deputy presidents.
Seven candidates are vying for the four vice presidents’ posts (Bumiputera) and the result will be known dur ing the par ty’s Trienniel General Meeting (TGM) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here Feb 9 to 11.
They are Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Kar im Rahman Hamzah; Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) , Datuk Ta l i p Zulpilip; Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Assistant Minister of Coastal Road, Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, Dr Annuar Rapaee; Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datu Len Talif and Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail. For the post of PBB secretarygeneral which was left vacant after the Minister of Utilities, Datuk Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom took the position of vice president for the Pesaka wing.
According to Asfia, the post of PBB secretary-general is for Pesaka wing, which is directly appointed by the PBB president who is also the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg. “The secretary-general is a special quota for the Pesaka wing and no one from the Bumiputera is allowed to contest for this post,” Asfia added.
For the post of PBB deputy women chief, there were only two nominations for the Bumiputera and Pesaka wings they were Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim (Bumiputera) and Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang (Pesaka). Member s of the Supreme Council (Pesaka) are Dr Christine Augustine Kiek, Kesean Nenna Sandah, Carrie Anne John David, Mindy Maida John, Roszuina Labet, Juliana Usun Kalang, Josephine Henry Sum Agong, Datin Esther Mujan Balan, Jenny Bangga, Elizabeth Nail Wen, Nancy Kuyor, Rheineld@Minor Panyau and Phyllis Empina Tanggari.
Meanwhile, members of the Supreme Council (Bumiputera) comprise Zainani Salleh, Jamaiyah Sulaiman, Dora Abdul Rahman, Datuk Norah Abdul Rahman, Syeliza Basri, Rubiah Wang, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, KR Hajah Hairiah Idris, Hasanah Majais, Fatimah @ Rokiah Temben, Rosey Yunus and Hanifah Saed. There were unanimous nominations for 16 Bumiputera and 14 Pesaka wings members for the supreme council line-up.
The 16 Bumiputera nominees are Dato’ Ahmad Ibrahim, Datuk Haji Ahmad Lai Bujang, Abdul Yakub Arbi, Zainulabidin Ismail, Buang Haji Bolhassan, Ricky@ Mohammad Razi Sitam, Razaili Haji Gapor, Awla Dris, Dr Hazland Abang Haji Hipni, Yussibnosh Balo, Pandi Suhaili, Simoi Peri, Ripin Lamat, Awangku Jinal Abedin Pengiran Jawa, Dato’ Murshid Diraja Juanda Jaya and Haidar Khan Asghar Khan.
As for PBB supreme council members from the Pesaka wing, they are Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit, Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan, John Ilus, Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Dennis Ngau, Dato Robert Laing Anyie, Daniel Jubang, Mikai Mandau, Japar Labaw, Richard Tawan Sedu, Michael Mujah Lihan, Paulus Dandee Banyang, Asiang Gihep and John Nyigor.
