KUCHING: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has yet to decide on the opening of this year’s Ramadan bazaar.

Its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the committee will discuss the matter next week.

“The federal government has prepared the standard operating procedures (SOPs), and SDMC will discuss (on this) next week,” he said at a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update today.

Uggah, who is also a deputy chief minister was responding to a question on the opening of the Ramadan bazaar.

On Mar 16, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Ramadan bazaar and tarawih prayers at mosques and surau in the country are allowed and to be held in strict compliance with the SOPs.

He said the SOPs would be issued by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the local governments in the states.

On the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, Uggah said the cases in Sibu, Betong, Kuching, Bintulu, and Kapit have shown a downward trend in cases this week.

“To date only 56 longhouses are still under lockdown, and 264 longhouses have been released from lockdown orders,” he said.

On the number of recoveries, Uggah said there were a total of 183 recoveries and allowed to be discharged from hospitals on Friday.

“74 were discharged from Sibu Hospital, Sarawak General Hospital (35), Bintulu Hospital (28), Sarikei Hospital (17), Covid-19 Low Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) under Kapit Hospital (eight), Miri Hospital (eight), Betong PKRC (seven), Mukah PKRC (five) and Serian PKRC (one),” he said.
