ROBAN: Public examinations like the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) determine the next course in life for students.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri who gave the reminder said all Form 5 students sitting for the SPM soon must therefore produce good results.
“Where do I go after this? Usually there are only two options, and you (the student) yourself will decide to choose between success and failure,” he said.
“Remember, brilliant people always show results, while unsuccessful people often give excuses.
“I believe that all parties starting from parents, family, teachers have high hopes to see you succeed and excel.
“Therefore, continue to cultivate the practice of excellence because when the exam results are known in the next few months, I want the children of Saratok to be in the best group.”
He said this while inaugurating the Education Awareness Programme jointly organised by the Saratok District Education Office and the Sarawak Foundation as well as the 2022 SPM Candidate Knowledge Conference at SMK Kalaka, yesterday.
As a representative of the people, he said, he is committed to providing solid support and making every effort to ensure the need for education in the city is also translated to the countryside.
Mohamad also referred to Sarawak’s need for many skilled workers by 2030, calling on students to prepare themselves to grab the job opportunities available in the future.
For that reason, he said, more human capital in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) should be born to support various new economic policies of the Sarawak government.
“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has many new economic policies to move forward.
“But in order to realise all that, Sarawak needs human capital that can be the backbone and I believe rural children are also able to cover the need for skilled workers in Sarawak,” he stressed.
Saratok District Education Officer Anis Madeli was also present.
