KUCHING: There are no major corruption cases reported during the first three months this year in Sarawak, said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak director Mohd Zaki Hassan.
“There are many corruption cases in Sarawak but in terms of high-profile cases, there is none from our findings so far,” he reiterated.
He has also mentioned that an investigation into the RM50,000 wooden jetty in Kampung Mutap, Bekenu was still ongoing.
“We will verify the claims allegedly made by certain quarters that the jetty pole was not entirely built with ‘belian’ timber as stated by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR).
“JKR has affirmed that the construction involved ‘belian’ timber but the locals have allegedly claimed that only the poles were made of ‘belian’ timber.
“Hence, the investigation is still ongoing and we will verify whether it is true and the final report will be brought to the deputy public prosecutor,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the “Sik Mok Kawtim, Sik Mok Rasuah” programme in conjunction with Ihya Ramadan and bubur lambuk distribution programme at Darul Hana Patingan Mosque, Jalan Muhibbah here yesterday (Apr 16).
About 500 bowls of bubur lambuk were distributed and Zaki hoped that it would be an annual event.
“Hopefully it will be an annual event that can be done starting from this year and I would like to thank Malaysian Anti-Corruption Foundation (YARM) and also the team here at Darul Hana Patingan Mosque for the collaboration and providing the venue for this event.
“Our main aim today is actually to raise the awareness among the youth to eradicate corruption and also let the youth know more about MACC in order to pull both sides closer to each other,” he added.
YARM Sarawak chairman Awang Mohammad Putra Awang Sopeian and Darul Hana Patingan Mosque chairman Zamhari Hashim were also present at the event.
