KUCHING: There will be no more traffic jams at flyover construction sites after the completion of the heavy substructures in six months’ time, said Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang.
Currently, there are traffic jams during peak hours at the flyover construction sites at Mile 6, Mile 4 1/2, Mile 7 and Mile 10.
“I appeal to members of the public to bear with us as the Northern Pan Borneo Highway (LBU) are cooperating with us,” Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, told a press conference at CS Food Court yesterday.
He admitted his ears were ‘burning’ due to a lot of public complaints about the massive traffic jams in the areas.
Pointing out that the flyover projects were under the federal government, Lo said he was very disappointed as they were taking too long to finish.
He said there had been a lot of problems on the ground since the projects started two years ago.
“One of the main issues is traffic congestion. I had a meeting with LBU and Public Works Department (JKR) and they agreed to address these issues.
“LBU agreed to minimise the traffic jams along Mile 9 by increasing the lanes from one to two during peak hours (7am to 8.30am and 4pm to 7pm) and when there is no construction,” he said.
When asked on the completion time of the flyover projects, he replied that they are expected to be completed on Jan 5, 2021.
On another issue regarding the road condition at the Kota Sentosa traffic light junction from Batu Kitang/Bau, Lo said that LBU promised to rectify the matter before Christmas to reduce the inconveniences to the public.
