KUCHING: There is no need to set up a new Covid-19 committee as it will cause confusion, especially in terms of jurisdiction, said Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

He pointed out that the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has carried out its duties very well and efficiently.

“The standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the SDMC are the best in the effort to curb the transmission of Covid-19.

“In this war against the Covid-19 pandemic that is plaguing the world right now, all parties need to jointly decide on the outbreak chain directly and indirectly.

“It is more important now that every layer of society including the opposition continues to comply with the given SOPs to ensure that Covid-19 in Sarawak can be fought off,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune.

Recently, Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) deputy chairperson David Wong urged the state government to set up a bipartisan Covid-19 committee with the opposition.

He said the opposition could help in strategising policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to help Sarawakians.
