KUCHING: The creation of a new ministry does not aid or guarantee the eradication of child-related issues or problems in Malaysia, said Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie.
The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief said it all boiled down to the efficacy of the related ministries as well as the execution and implementation of related policies and child welfare regulations that were already in place in the country.
“It is pleasant to have a new ministry but there are no pressing needs for it at the moment.
“This is because, for the time being, the Federal Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry can still handle the issues and needs of approximately 24 percent of the children population,” she explained.
Doris, who is also political secretary to the chief minister, stressed that it was high time for recovery for all Malaysians.
“We have around 20 months before the GE15 and as I see it, there is no need to have a huge federal executive.
“Those appointed to the helm of the respective ministries should focus on reviving Malaysia from the aftermath of the political turmoil for the past 39 months as well as the pandemic crisis,” she said.
Doris urged that a well-thought-out Covid-19 recovery plan be implemented as quickly as possible to secure Malaysia’s economic recovery.
“I am of the opinion that the new government under the newly appointed prime minister should focus on overcoming the pandemic issues and strive to emerge from the major health crisis to save the lives of all Malaysians regardless of age, status, gender, race, or religion,” she said.
