KUCHING: Sarawak’s proposal to set up a boutique airline has received no objections from the federal Cabinet, with further discussions to be held on the matter.
In disclosing this, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing confirmed that the proposal had been approved in principle, but no official approval had been granted yet.
He said the federal and state Transport Ministries will further discuss on how to set up the airline.
“There were no objections to the proposal but there is no official approval yet, so we have to wait and see.
“Both ministries will discuss this further whether to take over existing airline companies or set up a new airline,” said Tiong during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House event at Astana Negeri today (April 22).
He assured that the initiative can help to support local tourism in other divisions and would benefit Sarawakians economically.
“This is important for people, especially those in rural areas. Look at it as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme by the government.
“This could improve the livelihood of the people, the socioeconomic, for the conveniences of the people and also for travel,” he said.
