The State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has been urged to ban its members from entering its chamber if they fail to wear their full ceremonial attire during its opening ceremony.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing was referring to members of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) for not wearing their proper attire during the DUN opening.
“It is required for DUN members to use the ceremonial attire as a show of decorum and respect,” he said in statement yesterday.
Masing said by contrast during the Parliament opening ceremony, Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen had used full ceremonial attire.
“It seems that Chong respect the Parliament but disrespect the DUN.
“He bows to the rules of Putrajaya but not to Sarawak. This shows where his loyalty and respect is,” he said.
Chong, went met by reporters in the, said unlike DUN Sarawak, Parliament has a directive to wear the first uniform.
“Here, there is no such directive, it is a matter of choice and personal liberty whether to wear or not, so we choose not to wear. It is as simple as that,” he said.
Chong said Masing was making a mountain out of a molehill as he did not have other important issues to talk about.
