KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) stressed that it has never imposed any rental charge for event space at Kuching Waterfront.
In a statement issued yesterday, DBKU said it was only charging for various services rendered upon request (commonly requested by event organisers).
Among them were area cleaning services (before/during/after the event), rental of mobile toilets, rental of potted plants, rental of barricades, issuance of permits (advertisement ― fishtail, banner, buntings, temporary hawker’s permit), traffic warden services and licensing.
It continued, “All service charges imposed are in accordance with the ‘User Pay Concept’ policy.
“As for the cost of cleaning and desludging, DBKU has to pay the cost of services to the contractor (vendor), thus, this is an overhead that DBKU has to bear.”
Any query pertaining on the above matter, the public can log in to DBKU website https://dbku.sarawak.gov.my or contact Public Relations Division at 082 – 512200.
On Sunday, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that DBKU had been charging extra rates when there was an event organised at Kuching Waterfront.
He noted that one was stall maintenance in which he stressed that the matter should be DBKU’s responsibility.
Abdul Karim also mentioned that DBKU would be meeting him soon to discuss on the imposition of extra rates when organising events in the city.
