PUTRAJAYA: There has been no report of any Malaysians affected by the 6.6 magnitude earthquake in the east of Tulunan in North Cotabato, Philippines, yesterday morning, according to Wisma Putra.
According to the local authorities, the earthquake had so far claimed two lives and caused damages to buildings and residences, it said.
The foreign ministry also conveyed sympathies and condolences to the government and people of the Philippines, in particular to those who had been directly affected.
“Malaysia stands in solidarity with the Philippines during this challenging time,” Wisma Putra said in a statement yesterday.
It also said that Malaysians requiring consular assistance can contact the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao City.
According to media reports, the 6.6 magnitude quake was caused by movement in a local fault about 4.3 miles (6.9 km) deep about 15 miles (24km) northeast of Tulunan town in Cotabato province. – Bernama
