KUCHING: No school or state, including Sarawak, will be marginalised by the Education Ministry under the Malaysia Madani concept.

The assurance was given by Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying who said all government schools will receive RM70,000 each for maintenance works and toilet upgrades.

The allocations, she said, were distributed and channelled to the District Education Offices (PPD), adding that priority should be given to maintaining and upgrading schools’ facilities and infrastructure.

“I hope all the schools will optimise the allocation and create a conducive learning environment for the students,” she said during a working visit to  Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bintulu today.

Lim urged the PPD to provide necessary assistance to schools in various aspects.

The deputy minister announced a RM100,000 allocation for the school, including RM70,000 to upgrade toilets and RM30,000 for other repair works.

Apart from that, she said, all the mission schools that have applied for maintenance assistance have received at least RM50,000, while those which requested more than the amount are subject  to approval.

“The allocation is distributed according to priority or urgency, where a total of 160 out of 192 government-aided schools in Sarawak have received the money this year.

“This show that the unity government is committed to ensuring a conducive learning environment for all the students,” she added.

The Deputy Minister also visited Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Han Bintulu and SJKC Kai Ming, where she announced RM100,000 and RM50,000 for the two schools respectively.

Also accompanying her on the visit were Stampin Member of Parliament (MP) and Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen and Sarawak education director Datuk Azhar Ahmad.
