BINTULU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, Bintulu branch has assured that the supply of essential goods during Ramadan and Aidilfitri is adequate and regulated.

Branch head Nazari Hassan said his office would ensure the supply of staple food such as meat, chicken, fish, vegetables and eggs from April 21 to May 20.

He added that traders needed to abide by the price control scheme list 22 days prior to the celebration, one day during the celebration, and seven days after.

Traders must also display pink price tags, ensure  sufficient supply of goods as well as to use authorised weights and measures.

Individuals who fail to comply with the laws under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 can be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for up to three years, or both, for the first offence.

“The second or subsequent offence is punishable by a fine of not more than RM250,000 or imprisonment for not more than five years, or both,” Nazari said today.

A monitoring operation earlier found that the prices of goods were under control and that there was sufficient supply of essential items such as sugar, flour and cooking oil.

This year, the ministry has listed 12 items in the festive season price control scheme.

They include live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, local beef, imported beef, imported buffalo meat, Grade A, B and C chicken eggs and mackerel.
