SIBU: All government projects in the Sibu Division are being implemented smoothly, although some of them are behind schedule, said Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
The Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development said that to date, there are no projects that are categorised as sick projects.
He added that those projects categoried as behind the schedule can still be rectified.
“Projects that are currently being implemented in the Sibu Division involve a cost of RM317.4 million, while those that have been approved for implementation totalled RM1.603 billion.
“The overall cost of projects currently under implementation and those that have been approved and are awaiting implementation is RM1.92 billion,” he said.
He said this in a press conference after attending a briefing on the projects by Public Works Department (PWD) Sibu chief Chieng Siong Ming at a hotel here today (July 10).
Meanwhile, on the proposed Jalan Teku Pasai-Siong that will connect to Kemuyang, he said it would be implemented under the people’s project.
“The road will be from UTS (University of Technology Sarawak) roundabout to Pasai-Siong.
“It will be a dual carriageway to Kemuyang, and later the road from Taman Desa Kemuyang to Jalan Sibu-Bintulu will be upgraded to a higher level for more convenience,” he added.
He said the project is a challenging one as it involves utilities, electricity, and telecommunication cables.
On the ongoing construction of the 7.6km Jalan Kong Yit Khim to Sibu airport, he said it would be completed by this December.
“JKR needs to monitor the project so that it can be completed before Christmas,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, who is also the Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, and Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.
