KUCHING: There is no political will on the Barisan Nasional nor Perikatan Nasional-led government to recognise Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), says Michael Kong.
The special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said despite the open rejection of UEC by the present federal government, he did not hear any criticism from any Chinese educationists or groups such as the Association of the Board of Management of Aided Chinese Primary School, Management Committee of Kuching Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, 3 and 4 and Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations.
“Even SUPP is suddenly quiet about this issue,” he said. He added that it was worth noting that the groups were previously taking the opportunity to lambast and chastise Pakatan Harapan (PH) during its 22 months for not immediately recognising UEC.
“Despite PH having already set up a task force to study ways to implement the recognition of UEC harmoniously in an environment where the BN/Umno was using it as a racial card to fan racial sentiment.”
Kong also said that it was clear that in Malaysia, there was no political will on the part of BN or PN to recognise UEC due to their racial policies.
“History will show that the only coalition willing to work towards the recognition of UEC was PH and this is because of its belief in a multi-racial country that lives harmoniously with one another.
“As Malaysians, we must continue to push the PH agenda for a liberal and moderate society so that we can all look beyond the three Rs: Race, Religion and Region,” Kong stressed.
