THERE is no urgent need to build a new hospital in Julau, says Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee.
This was because the requirement to set up a hospital, according to the Ministry of Health, must be based on a ratio of one hospital for every 38,000 people, he explained.
“Based on the 2018 estimated population in Julau, there are 18,100 residents.
“They can get healthcare services at Sarikei Hospital, which has 11 specialists, including dental expertise,” he said when answering a question from Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin at the DUN sitting on Monday (Nov 9).
He added that the Sarawak Health Department would continue to monitor the need to build a hospital in the area.
