KUCHING:  The decision to open up a yellow noodle production business during these unstable times due to Covid-19 has given B’Mori Mi Kuning Zaidah founder Mohammad Nazri Aboi a sense of relief as his products have received encouraging response from customers.

Nazri revealed that his business, which has been in operation for a year, has been successful in getting the attention of customers from Kuching, Simunjan, Sematan, Gedong and Lundu.

“I now make approximately 200 kilogrammes of wet noodles not only to fulfil customers’ orders but also for walk-in customers who come to the shop,” he added.

He said this when met by reporters after Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais officiated at the Zuema Enterprise and B’Mori Mi Kuning Zaidah at Kawasan Industri Mara (KIM) Demak Laut Industrial Estate, Jalan Bako on Monday.

Starting the business on a small scale in Kuching, Nazri is actually a third-generation maker and supplier of Mi Kuning Zaidah as it was first managed by his grandfather in Sarikei in the 1990s.

He first started operating at Lot Kedai Family Café, Jalan Haji Taha in Kuching last year in June.

Nazri said he used his own savings and obtained loans from family members to purchase equipment.

“At first, it was quite challenging as it started when the economy was not doing well due to Covid-19. We also faced difficulty in terms of high rental fees for premises we want to operate in.

“On November 1 last year, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) let us operate in the Mara industrial area with affordable rent,” he said.

He added that they are on a mission to supply quality noodles that is both healthy and affordable.

Nazri said with a financial aid of RM20,000 under the Technical and Vocational Entrepreneurs Programme (USTEV), he wants to use it to upgrade his equipment.

“This is because I want to increase product output by making various types of noodles such as mi kolok and sago noodles.

“B’mori is a family business and among our products include Mi Kuning Zaidah, Pati Char Kuey Tiaw, Perencah Segera Bakso (instant bakso seasoning) and Perencah Segera Soto (instant soto seasoning),” he said.

He also added that in order to expand his business outside Sarawak, he wants to produce dry noodles.

“If I produce dry noodles it has the potential to go further as it has a longer shelf life and I hope this can be achieved with the government’s help.

“The challenge with wet noodles is that it cannot last long — it can only last for three to four days. If it’s in the refrigerator it can last for two weeks and when frozen it can last two months,” he said.

Nazri also expressed his appreciation to those who have helped him namely the International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Ministry, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation, Mara and others.
