KUCHING: The Sarawak branch of Persatuan Bimbingan Agama Buddha Malaysia (PBABM) visited Penjara Puncak Borneo (PPB) and Pusat Pemulihan Penagihan Narkotik (PUSPEN) Kuching to present oranges to everyone there.
The delegation was led by chairman Thian Phin Kong, teachers and members of PBABM.
“Around 1,300 multi-racial and multi-faith individuals are serving sentences in PPB, while 272 people with substance abuse are in PUSPEN,” it said in a statement yesterday (Jan 19).
“PBABM has been making a difference in the lives of these individuals at PPB by conducting character rebuilding programmes based on the teachings of Buddha.
“We strive to empower and prepare those fighting for a second chance for a new beginning.”
Meanwhile, PPB deputy superintendent Hafiz Matsahri expressed his gratitude to PBABM for its contributions and support in helping the population at PPB recover and reintegrate into society.
“It is hoped that PBABM’s efforts will inspire other non-profit organisations to participate in similar acts of kindness.”
Furthermore, the delegation was also joined by members of Kuching Art and Cultural Image Association, who are currently working on a film aimed at educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
