KUCHING: Nor Aiman Zaini was announced as the winner of the Sarawak Fashion Award 2017 during the finals held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, yesterday

Aiman went home with RM2,000, a trophy and the SABATI Challenge Trophy.

In second place was Sonia Chong; she received  RM1,500 and  a trophy.  Dayang Siti Aisyah, who came third, received  RM1,000 and  a trophy.

In her speech, Juma’ani  encouraged youths to explore the vast opportunities offered by the  fashion design industry. 

Ethel Lampai was announced the Most Supporting Model of Sarawak Fashion Awards 2017.

She suggested they capitalise on the state’s multi ethnic and culture for their aspirations when designing. 

“For example, the Malays in Sarawak are known for their “Tudung Keringkam” and “Kain Songket”  while the Ibans are known for their “Pua Kumbu.”

“When these unique motifs are combined into fashion, they become quality materials for fashion designs and, at the same time, make Sarawak well known internationally,” said Juma’ani.

She  hoped that the Sarawak Fashion Award would be held in future to expose  young talents in the fashion design field.

Also present at the prize presentation ceremony was Director of Workforce Development Unit, Prof. Dr Abdul Rahman Deen.
