LIMBANG: The northern area of Sarawak will continue to be developed in an effort to improve the quality of life of the local community.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said special focus would be given on infrastructure development including roads and bridges.

“One of the road projects that will commence this year is the Northern Coastal Highway which has been approved by the government of Brunei.

“Sarawak Link Road will also be implemented where the first phase is already under construction while the road connecting directly to the Sarawak-Indonesia border is also in the planning stage,” he was quoted as saying by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

Awang Tengah added the development of basic facilities such as electricity supply was also being implemented with Limbang and Lawas districts being connected to the main electricity grid.

“With the implementation of the project which is expected to be completed in 2024, it will expand the electricity facilities to the rural areas,” he said.

In addition, he said, telecommunication coverage and water supply will also be extended to rural areas to provide convenience to the local people.

“The Sarawak government will also focus on the development of education infrastructure, health, tourism, business premises, and other facilities,” he said.

With this, Awang Tengah is confident that northern Sarawak would be able to attract more investors, from both within and outside the country.

The Deputy Premier on Sunday visited the open house of Pemanca Leong Boong Ming, Penghulu Chua Beng Soon and Limbang Hokkien Association chairman David Chua Thien Teen in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
