KUCHING: Resettlement does not apply to villages in Bau.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep yesterday said there will only be village extensions and plans are afoot to do this.
“We recognise how we should let people with extended families, for instance the villagers of Kampung Melayu Bau, to have their own extension.
“It is not a settlement or a resettlement, but extension. So we don’t have this terminology of resettlement, not in Bau,” he told reporters after attending the handing over of land titles under Section 18 in Singai area yesterday.
He said the extension of Kampung Melayu Bau will involved using state land somewhere between Taman Mutiara Jambusan and Bau town.
“The land we are looking at is 100 percent state land,” he assured.
Touching on other development projects in Bau area, he said the first 50 units of affordable Spektra Permata houses in Sibuluh, Bau, a project undertaken by Housing Development Corporation (HDC), will be constructed in March.
“These houses are meant for those under the B40 group whose income is below RM3,500.
“Priority will be given to the natives because the land has a native status,” he said.
He said Education and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee will launch the first phase of the housing project next Saturday.
The housing project will be located at Mile 5, Bau-Lundu Road.
