KUCHING: There is not much for Sarawakians to be cheer in Budget 2020, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
Contacted by New Sarawak Tribune to comment on the Budget yesterday, he said the expectation of the general public that Pakatan Harapan (PH) government would fulfill their manifesto for Sarawak was not met.
“The allocations provided are insufficient to cater for the need of the state. For example in the matter of water supply, half of the amount of RM470 million is a far cry from the RM2.8 billion allocated by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government to provide clean water to every household in Sarawak by 2025,” said Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Utilities Assistant Minister in charge of water supply.
“We were expecting more attention and allocations to be provided for Sarawak and Sabah in order to expedite the physical development in the two states.
“The Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) can only be achieved once Sarawak and Sabah are equally developed and the socioeconomic standing of the people in these two states is equivalent to those in Malaya,” he said.
