KUCHING: TEDxJalanPadungan will debut at the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak on Nov 30, showcasing transformative ideas on change.

The event promises to ignite conversations, challenge perspectives, and inspire innovation through an impressive line-up of speakers and performers.

The organiser and experienced curator, Camelia Yeung, stressed the event’s mission to celebrate local changemakers.

“In my four years in Kuching, I’ve encountered many inspiring individuals driving change.

“TEDxJalanPadungan is my way of showcasing their stories, celebrating their impact, and amplifying their ideas to spark innovation and transformation not just in our community but on a global scale.”

Among the speakers is Mandy Chen, whose social enterprise, Landik, empowers senior artisans in Sarawak.

Similarly, a cultural heritage expert, Dr Connie Lim brings new life to Sarawak’s iconic Sape by integrating its sounds into contemporary music, fostering an appreciation for the instrument across generations.

Fashion innovator Dickson Lim is another event highlight for his daring and futuristic menswear designs; Lim is breaking boundaries on international runways and challenging traditional fashion norms.

Sustainability takes centre stage with Jasmine Tuan, who advocates for circular fashion and sustainable living throughout Southeast Asia in her mission to promote eco-conscious practices and is part of a growing global movement to rethink consumption and reduce environmental impact.

The diverse line-up also features influential arts, education and health figures where Karen Shepherd champions creative industries in Kuching, while Prof Dr Woo Yin Ling revolutionises cervical cancer prevention for underprivileged women through digital health innovation.

Ezra Tekola blends music and craftsmanship to preserve indigenous heritage, using the Sape as both an instrument and a symbol of cultural identity.
