KUCHING: A new One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC) is expected to begin operating in Miri this November.
Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister , Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said an allocation of RM11.98 million was available for the purpose.
According to her renovations would be done on the building identified for the centre and teachers and staff appointed for its management and administration.
“We are hoping it will begin its operations in November this year,” she said after chairing the Council of Early Childhood Development meeting at Baitul Makmur II here on Wednesday (Feb 8).
Fatimah added that the Ministry also aimed to increase the number of teachers holding at least a Diploma in Early Childhood Education by 2025.
“We will collaborate with local universities such as Universiti Terbuka Malaysia, and Sarawak Development Skills Centre (PPKS).
“This is very important because the quality of our teachers is significant in ensuring the service is at its best,” she added.
She stated that as of December 31 last year, there were 3,062 Early Childhood Education Institutions (IPAKK) registered in Sarawak.
“A total of 228 of them were TASKA (playschools), and 2834 were kindergartens,” she added.
