KUCHING: A somber atmosphere enveloped the Raudhatul Sakinah Complex (Samariang Islamic Cemetery) here today (Jan 5) as 30-year-old Nurhaslinda Abdullah was laid to rest.
Her burial, conducted during the Asr prayer, was marked by the visible grief on the faces of her family members.
Nurhaslinda’s body, after a long journey from South Korea to Kuala Lumpur, faced a 10-day delay before it could be transported to Kuching.
Her father, Abdullah Mat, 65, shared his deep sorrow over his daughter’s demise.
“No parents will not be sad when their child passes. However, I cannot resent her passing away, so we have to accept this as it is,” he said.
Abdullah recounted the events leading to his daughter’s untimely death. On December 24, Nurhaslinda had contacted her brother, feeling unwell and requesting a ticket back to Malaysia.
“So he bought tickets for her to return on the night of December 25. But later on that day, he received a call from the Malaysian Embassy in South Korea informing that she had passed,” Abdullah added.
Despite the tragedy, Abdullah expressed his gratitude towards Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and the Malaysian community for their support and donations, which facilitated Nurhaslinda’s return to her hometown for burial.
Nurhaslinda, who had been working in a factory in South Korea since September 2023, suffered from a heart condition. She had undergone heart surgery a decade ago to repair a heart defect and also battled asthma.
