KUCHING: A nurse at a private clinic in Stutong here was bitten by a stray dog that entered the clinic premises on Monday (Aug 21).
The nurse sustained bites on her left leg and right hand and was immediately taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment. The nurse’s follow-up treatment is scheduled for Aug 24.
The incident was confirmed by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng during a press conference on Tuesday.
“The stray dog wandered into the clinic at around 12pm and bit the nurse. SGH has informed the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS).”
In response to the news, a team from MBKS was dispatched, managing to capture one of the two stray dogs in the area. The fate of the other stray, which fled into a nearby forest, is uncertain.
However, it is not known whether or not the captured stray is the one that bit the nurse.
Wee mentioned that MBKS conducts daily routine operations to monitor and capture stray dogs within its jurisdiction.
“We are also working closely with DVSS and divisional health offices to handle cases of dog bites. Immediate action is taken when such cases are reported, including capturing strays and ensuring the safety of the public,” he added.
