KABONG: Fire safety education should be instilled from a young age with the hope that children can protect themselves in emergency situations, says Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.
He suggested that schools collaborate closely with the Fire and Rescue Department to disseminate knowledge about fire safety.
“Knowledge and preventive education about the dangers of fire need to be nurtured from a young age. Our objective is to provide exposure so that, in the event of an emergency, at least those in school can take steps to save themselves,” he said.
He made these remarks when officiating at the Fire Safety Awareness Programme at Kampung Perpat National School here yesterday.
Mohamad commended the school’s efforts for its cooperation with the Saratok Fire and Rescue Department.
“I believe this programme is timely and very beneficial to the students and residents present. Remember, when a fire is small, it’s a friend. On the contrary, when it becomes big, it turns into an enemy. Therefore, I hope the knowledge gained from this programme can be applied to prevent untoward incidents,” he added.
He also shared his experiences on several incidents involving early fire prevention.
“That’s why I dare to say that with knowledge of early fire prevention measures, we can avoid situations from becoming worse, thereby preventing loss of lives and property damage,” he concluded.
During the same event, he presented contributions of fire extinguishing equipment to the community chief and community leader at Kampung Perpat, Rumah Panjang Tanjung, as well as SK Kampung Perpat and SK Paloh.
Earlier, a fire prevention demonstration was conducted by the Saratok Fire and Rescue Department led by PBK II Nasir Drahman.
Also present were Saratok District deputy education officer Ilhias Muhie and SK Perpat Principal Norila Gani.
