SADONG JAYA: Modern hafiz (individuals who have memorised the Quran) should deepen their understanding by not only memorising the Quran but also translating and applying its teachings.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed the importance of nurturing young hafiz as individuals who excel both in this world and the hereafter.

He asserted that these hafiz are important in uplifting the Muslim community and enhancing the quality of life through education and spiritual development.

As such, he called for collective efforts to improve facilities and opportunities for the Muslim community, highlighting the need for a balanced education that encompasses both religious and secular knowledge.

“Congratulations to our hafiz. However, it is equally important that they translate and implement the teachings of the Quran in their lives.

“Many scholars, particularly in the field of economics, have drawn inspiration from Islamic teachings, especially the works of Ibn Khaldun, which serve as a foundation for human development.

“I hope the hafiz would continue their education, advancing from primary to secondary school and eventually pursuing vocational education,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the upgrading ceremony of Masjid Darul Iman of the Sadong Jaya sub-district on Friday.

Abang Johari further noted that the state government is committed to the plans to establish international Islamic schools that would combine Islamic teachings with a Cambridge curriculum, ensuring that students are well-versed in both the Quran and applicable scientific knowledge.

“We aim to produce hafiz who will also be experts in various fields, contributing to their families and society at large,” he added.

On the same note, Abang Johari also acknowledged the current challenges posed by climate change, urging the need for scientific expertise to address such global issues effectively.

Additionally, he reiterated that the increase in household income is contingent upon the educational attainment of children in the family.

He then reaffirmed that the state government is committed to providing free university education by 2026, aiming to elevate the economic status of families through better education and job opportunities.

“With the strong spirit of Islam as our foundation, may this mosque symbolise our unity and collaborative efforts to improve our lives, transforming our destiny as a community.

“As quoted in the Quran: Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves,” he said.
