LUNDU: The Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) is committed to create more entrepreneurs among the youth through the organising of various programmes.
Its Deputy Minister Dr Ripin Lamat said this is in line with the Sarawak government’s aspiration to achieve the status of a developed state by 2030.
“After the COVID-19 outbreak, job opportunities are very limited and this has opened up opportunities for young people to venture into the field of entrepreneurship, especially in the food industry.
“Through the presence of 321 youth entrepreneurs today, it therefore shows an encouraging response in the field of entrepreneurship,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a news report.
Ripin was earlier speaking at the Youth Entrepreneur Setup (YES) @Lundu programme which was held at the Lundu Community Hall on Saturday (Feb 11).
Meanwhile, Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan welcomed a similar programme to be organised in Lundu district.
The programme, he said, exposes the youth to the important knowledge needed to start their own businesses.
Lundu district in particular has great potential as a major tourism hub in Sarawak, he added.
“This can be further developed not only by the government but also by the private sector,” he said.
