KOTA SAMARAHAN: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak branch has been actively promoting and emphasising on the usage of Malay literature in the state.

In line with its continuous effort to empower the Malay language in literature, DBP Sarawak branch together with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak recently organised the ‘Pertandingan Melarik Puisi dan Bengkel Perolehan Manuskrip Buku Sastera (Puisi Seni Coret dan Melarik Puisi)’ in conjunction with DBP Dekad Membaca Kebangsaan 2024 programme.

According to DBP Sarawak director Abang Haliman Abang Julai, the programme aims to nurture students to be more creative, innovative, and productive in developing individuals who are balanced in every aspects of physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual.

He also explained the programme will provide understanding to students about the arts and expose their skills for a brighter career opportunity in the future.

“Through this workshop, it is one of DBP’s efforts to enhance Malay language literature in the country, especially in Sarawak.

“This is also to ensure it can be a reference for society now and in the future, while promoting the role, function, and importance of language, literature, and publishing as core elements in the development of Malaysian civilization and nation,” he added.

The programme was held from June 24 to 26 and was attended by students from UiTM Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), and Tun Abdul Razak Teacher Education Institute (IPGKTAR).
