KUCHING: The upcoming Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Festival 2024 will serve as a platform for the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) to enhance the profile of local socio-economic developments in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) region by promoting traditional food businesses.
Celebrating Malaysia Day at the Sarawak Cultural Village on Sept 14-15, the festival will feature RECODA’s vendors stationed at the Iban Longhouse.
According to Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, there will be diverse food stalls at the Iban Longhouse, offering delicacies from various communities within the SCORE region.
Geena’s Kitchen will represent the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) region with Iban specialities, while Restoran Bahek will serve Orang Ulu delicacies from the Highland Development Authority (HDA) region. Bisaya Kitchen will present dishes from the NRDA region, and Teratak Lasme will highlight Malay cuisine.
Dapur Melanau from Mukah and Min Catering will offer Melanau dishes at the festival. Additionally, businesses like Carus Eco Plants, Lembaga Koko, Reka Jaya, and MYGINHO will showcase their unique Sarawakian products.
RECODA is committed to transforming rural Sarawak into an economic powerhouse through food-related socio-economic development initiatives, including the Food Basket programme. The “SCORE – Integrated Agropark with Dynamic Modern Farming” in Igan, Mukah, aims to revolutionise traditional farming.
Furthermore, RECODA has established the Integrated Highland Agriculture Station at Long Banga, Ulu Baram, as a highland agricultural research centre. Initiatives like Mozzarella cheese production in Lawas and knowledge-sharing programmes are enhancing socio-economic opportunities within the score region.
These initiatives are creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and enhancing food security in local communities.
